Oil surges, metals wobble, grains stay bid
Crude leads the commodity complex higher as most other major contracts fade.
Oil is the clear leader. WTI crude jumps 5.1% to 74.03, and Brent climbs 5.8% to 78.44. CNBC Markets says oil prices jump more than 4% after Trump threatens to bomb Iran and reimpose a naval blockade, while MarketWatch says oil ends at its highest price in over two weeks as the U.S.-Iran conflict worsens.
Most of the rest of the commodity board is softer. Natural gas falls 1.4% to 3.22, gold drops 1.3% to 4091.3999, silver falls 3.5% to 58.8, and copper slips 0.7% to 6.1295. Platinum loses 3.5% to 1593.3, adding to the broad pullback in metals.
Agriculture is mixed but mostly firm. Corn gains 2.7% to 454.5, wheat slips 0.5% to 606.25, and soybeans ease 0.7% to 1188.25. Cocoa stands out again, rising 6.6% to 6039.0 after a strong run, while coffee drops 5.4% to 313.6.
