Oil surges while gold, grains, and metals mostly climb

Energy leads the commodity tape, with crude higher, gold up, and several agricultural contracts extending recent strength.

Crude oil is the clear headline. WTI rises 3.1% to 87.52, and Brent jumps 3.8% to 94.43. CNBC says Brent climbs as oil markets react to fading hopes for a ceasefire in the Middle East, while Reuters says oil extends gains near six-week highs on new supply risks.

Gold gains 1.1% to 4117.0, and silver adds 1.2% to 59.51. Copper is nearly flat, down 0.1% to 6.505, while platinum rises 2.4% to 1664.6.

Agriculture stays firm. Corn jumps 5.7% to 478.5, wheat adds 1.1% to 685.5, and soybeans rise 0.5% to 1225.75. Cocoa also advances 1.6% to 5607.0.

Natural gas rises 0.6% to 2.883, but gasoline drops 3.3% to 3.2928. Oil remains the dominant driver in the commodity complex today.
