Dollar mixed as yen weakens and commodity currencies swing
FX trading reflects the same cross-currents as the rest of the tape, with the yen softer and the dollar index barely lower.
The dollar index slips 0.05% to 101.125. EUR/USD is down 0.04% at 1.1413, while GBP/USD falls 0.4% to 1.3382.
The yen weakens, with USD/JPY up 0.3% to 162.902. USD/CHF and USD/CAD both rise 0.3% and 0.1%, respectively. AUD/USD is essentially flat at 0.7.
Commodity-linked currencies show a split reaction. USD/BRL falls 0.9%, USD/CNY drops 0.15%, and USD/MXN is flat. USD/KRW rises 0.2%, while USD/ZAR is unchanged.
The moves do not point to a broad dollar breakout. The dollar index remains above its 50-day and 200-day averages, but the day’s biggest currency tells come from the yen side and from oil-linked currencies.
