Oil jumps as Iran headlines keep traders on edge

Overseas markets are mixed, while crude and European equities reflect a risk-off tone around Middle East tensions.

Global equities split in different directions. The Nikkei 225 slips 0.2%, the Hang Seng falls 1.0%, and the Sensex declines 1.0%. The Shanghai Composite is little changed, up 0.1%.

In Europe, the DAX adds 0.02%, the CAC 40 rises 0.2%, and the FTSE 100 is flat at 0.01%. The Stoxx 600, though, edges down 0.2%. The TSX stands out with a 1.2% gain.

CNBC Markets reports that Brent oil jumps 2% as Rubio says Iran is not serious about peace talks, and Reuters says oil extends gains near six-week highs on new Middle East supply risks. That lines up with the broader move in energy prices, where Brent closes at 94.43 and WTI at 87.52.

On the corporate side, CNBC says Trump’s push for American-made AI chips is pressuring TSMC margins, while Wistron shares surge in Taiwan after opening a Texas AI superchip plant to supply Nvidia. Reuters also says Wall Street ends higher on chip stocks recovery, which matches the strength in the U.S. tech sector.
