Dollar firms as the yen and euro weaken
The greenback gains against most majors, with the yen and euro under pressure.
The dollar index rises 0.3% to 101.437. Against that backdrop, EUR/USD falls 0.2% to 1.1382 and GBP/USD slips 0.5% to 1.3315.
The yen weakens more noticeably. USD/JPY climbs 0.4% to 163.837, and the pair is now at its 52-week high in the data. USD/CHF rises 0.5% to 0.8167, while AUD/USD falls 0.4% to 0.6971.
Some emerging-market pairs move sharply too. USD/ZAR jumps 2.1% to 16.808, USD/MXN rises 0.6% to 17.5152 and USD/INR adds 0.2% to 96.563. USD/KRW, by contrast, falls 0.4% to 1474.12.
The FX tape fits the day’s broader move toward caution, with higher Treasury yields and rising oil keeping pressure on risk-sensitive currencies.
