Fund flows mirror the market’s risk-off tone

Equity funds slide with stocks, while bonds also lose ground and the broad market stays above key long-term trend lines.

The big equity funds finish lower. SPY falls 1.2% to 738.18, QQQ drops 1.9% to 691.96, VTI slips 1.1% to 364.69 and EFA loses 1.3% to 102.9.

Bond funds also trade weak. TLT falls 0.3% and VBTLX drops 0.2%, while the total bond market fund remains below both its 50-day and 200-day averages in the data.

On the managed-fund side, VFIAX declines 0.1% to 692.25, VTSAX falls 0.2% to 179.54 and VWELX is essentially flat, down 0.0% to 46.72. That keeps the day’s move centered on the highest-beta corners of the market.

The ETF tape matches the sector map, with tech and discretionary leading the decline and industrials, health and utilities offering the most support.
