Big earnings day arrives as markets lean on mega-cap cues

Exxon, Verizon, American Express, Charter and others report today, with AI spending and oil risk in the background.

Earnings are front and center today. XOM, VZ, AXP, CHTR, SLB, NEE, THC and BAH are all scheduled to report, with additional results due from LW, LBTYA, GNTX, FLG, SXT, FHB, GRC, WRLD, EAF and NDLS.

The market is already trading around two big earnings themes. CNBC says bond-market anxiety is growing over AI capex budgets, and CNBC Earnings says Intel rides the AI boom to its fastest revenue growth in almost 15 years, but shares still sink. That combination helps explain why Tech trades weak even as some software names outperform.

Energy also stays in the spotlight. WTI and Brent remain elevated despite today’s pullback, and CNBC points to U.S.-Iran tensions and oil shipment disruptions as a market risk. That makes Exxon and SLB especially notable reports to watch.

Elsewhere, the most-active and watchlist names show how sharply earnings reactions can diverge. AT&T rises 5.1%, American Airlines gains 6.8%, Cleveland-Cliffs adds 8.9%, while Intel falls 7.9% and Oracle slips 4.2%. The gap is a reminder that this market is rewarding beats and punishing anything tied to spending concerns.
