Dollar firms as yen weakens and the euro slips

FX moves stay modest overall, but the yen and euro point in opposite directions.

The dollar index edges up 0.03% to 101.465. EUR/USD falls 0.3% to 1.1375, GBP/USD drops 0.4% to 1.3319, and USD/JPY climbs 0.4% to 163.791.

The yen remains weak. USD/JPY is up on the day and up 0.9% on the week, while the pair sits at a level that keeps it near the top of its recent range. USD/CHF also rises 0.1%.

Commodity-linked and emerging-market currencies are mixed. AUD/USD slips 0.1%, USD/CAD rises 0.04%, USD/MXN gains 0.4%, and USD/ZAR jumps 2.6%. USD/KRW falls 1.1%, standing out as one of the larger moves in the group.

The dollar’s broad tone matches the rate backdrop. Treasury yields remain high, and that keeps the greenback supported even as the daily move in the dollar index itself is barely changed.
