Europe loses ground as Asia stays mostly firm
Mixed sessions abroad leave global equities split, with gains in Hong Kong, Seoul and Toronto offset by weakness in Europe.
Global equities are uneven. The Hang Seng rises 1.3% and the Kospi jumps 4.4%, while the Nikkei 225 adds 0.5%. The ASX 200 and TSX Comp. also finish higher, up 0.2% and 0.5% respectively.
Europe is softer. The DAX falls 1.6%, the CAC 40 drops 1.6%, and the Stoxx 600 loses 1.2%. The FTSE 100 bucks the trend and rises 0.9%, but the broader regional tone still skews weak.
Several global headlines keep trade and geopolitical risk in focus. CNBC reports Trump threatens the EU with a "substantial TARIFF" after fines on Google and other U.S. tech giants, while Reuters and CNBC both point to renewed tension around Iran, Red Sea shipping and the Strait of Hormuz. Those crosscurrents help explain why country and regional performance stays fragmented rather than broad-based.
