Oil sells off hard, metals mostly hold up

Crude and gasoline get hit, while copper and platinum rise and gold edges higher.

Energy prices drive the biggest commodity move of the day. WTI crude falls 8.3% to 81.92, Brent drops 9.3% to 87.83, gasoline sinks 7.0% to 3.1584, and natural gas loses 3.6% to 2.769. CNBC Markets and Reuters both point to the Middle East pause and market repricing as key context.

The move ripples through the energy complex. Energy stocks fall 2.1%, and several oil names show up in the market’s loser list, including COP down 3.9% and CVX down 2.5%.

Metals are steadier. Gold rises 0.3% to 4,078.8999, silver edges up 0.1% to 58.705, copper gains 1.1% to 6.391, and platinum climbs 2.3% to 1,629.2.

Agriculture is mixed. Corn rises 1.9%, wheat falls 3.0%, soybeans slip 2.9%, coffee gains 3.0%, sugar loses 1.4%, and cocoa drops 4.1%. The group remains volatile, but today’s biggest story is clearly the collapse in oil and refined products.
