Dollar firms as most major pairs stay subdued
FX is mostly quiet, with the dollar index up slightly and the yen holding near recent lows.
The dollar index ticks up 0.0% to 101.514, extending its weekly gain to 0.5%. The move is small, but it keeps the dollar firm against a basket of peers.
USD/JPY slips 0.0% to 163.75, leaving the pair close to its recent high and above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. USD/CHF rises 0.3% to 0.8192, while USD/CAD adds 0.2% to 1.4118.
Commodity-linked currencies mostly firm against the greenback. AUD/USD rises 0.3% to 0.6991, while USD/CNY declines 0.3% to 6.7544 and USD/INR falls 1.0% to 95.9.
The euro and pound are a bit softer. EUR/USD slips 0.0% to 1.1373 and GBP/USD drops 0.2% to 1.329. FXStreet frames the day around softer oil and shifting Middle East risk, which keeps the dollar from moving much even as some pairs swing in the background.
