Asia sinks, Europe rises, and the dollar barely moves
Global markets split along regional lines, with weakness in Asia, strength in Europe, and a firm but quiet dollar.
The global equity picture is uneven. In Asia, the Nikkei falls 2.7%, the Shanghai Composite drops 1.6%, the Kospi plunges 5.7%, the Sensex slips 0.4%, and the ASX 200 loses 0.8%. Hong Kong is the outlier, with the Hang Seng down only 1.0%.
Europe is a different story. The DAX adds 1.4%, the CAC 40 rises 0.9%, the Stoxx 600 gains 0.8%, and the FTSE 100 climbs 0.4%. The moves leave European indexes generally firmer than their Asian peers.
The dollar index edges up 0.0% to 101.514, while most major pairs are nearly unchanged. EUR/USD slips 0.0% to 1.1373, USD/JPY is off 0.0% to 163.75, and GBP/USD falls 0.2% to 1.329. Commodity currencies show mixed action, with AUD/USD up 0.3% and USD/CAD up 0.2%.
CNBC World points to Apple overtaking Nvidia, while other headlines center on geopolitical tension, AI, tariffs, and new satellite and stock-futures products. The market backdrop abroad still reads as a mix of policy risk, tech leadership shifts, and regional divergence.
