Gold, copper and platinum pop as oil pulls back
Metals rally hard while crude and gasoline cool off.
Metals carry the commodity board. Gold jumps 3.3% to 4166.2998, silver rises 2.5% to 59.33, copper gains 3.7% to 6.5055, and platinum jumps 5.0% to 1669.5. The moves leave several metals well above recent levels, even if some remain below their 200-day averages.
Energy is mixed to lower. WTI crude slips 0.3% to 84.21, Brent falls 1.4% to 89.45, and gasoline drops 7.8% to 3.1345. Nat gas bucks the trend with a 0.8% gain to 2.747.
Agricultural contracts mostly firm. Corn rises 4.3% to 468.5, soybeans add 0.9% to 1188.5, and wheat ticks up 0.4% to 663.5. Cocoa falls 1.3% to 5118.0, while sugar edges down 0.4% to 14.44 and coffee slips 0.4% to 324.5.
