Dollar weakens as euro and pound gain ground
The dollar slides against most major peers, with the yen and Swiss franc leading the move.
The dollar index falls 0.8% to 99.969. Against that backdrop, EUR/USD rises 1.3% to 1.153, GBP/USD climbs 1.4% to 1.3466, and AUD/USD adds 0.8% to 0.703.
The yen posts the sharpest move among the major developed-market pairs, with USD/JPY down 2.5% to 159.736. USD/CHF also drops 1.7% to 0.8053, while USD/CAD slips 0.7% to 1.4004.
Several Asia-linked currencies also move lower against the dollar. USD/KRW falls 2.2% to 1421.6, USD/CNY slips 0.4% to 6.7438, and USD/MXN loses 0.5% to 17.345. CNBC and FXStreet headlines point to a weaker dollar tone after soft growth data and suspected yen intervention.
