Tech, chips and a slide in oil push stocks to new highs
U.S. equities rally broadly as megacap tech leads, Treasury yields ease, and crude sinks sharply.
U.S. stocks finish with a clean risk-on session. The S&P 500 rises 1.8% to 7736.52, the Nasdaq climbs 2.6% to 26584.9922, the Dow adds 1.7% to 54085.8789, and the Russell 2000 gains 1.9% to 3036.9753. All four major indexes close above their 50-day and 200-day moving averages.
Tech is the clear leader. The sector jumps 5.0%, far ahead of materials at 1.9%, industrials at 1.8%, and financials at 0.9%. CNBC reports AMD’s revenue climbs 50% and data center sales doubled, and the sector-wide move shows up in big names like PLTR, INTC, SMCI, MU, and QCOM.
The marketwide tape is busy on both sides. Wayfair jumps 30.0%, Palantir rises 29.5%, and Paymentus gains 29.2%. On the downside, Bruker falls 21.8%, Centuri drops 21.5%, and Aptiv loses 16.6%. CNBC also flags Chipotle on a potential salmonella link, while Paramount Skydance raises full-year profit guidance.
Options flow shows traders leaning bullish. SPY posts a put-call ratio of 0.56, while QQQ sits at 0.76. The day ends with the S&P 500 trading in a tight late-session range after a steady climb through most of the afternoon.
