Gold surges as oil slides and grains jump
Precious metals rip higher, crude eases and several agricultural contracts post solid gains.
Gold jumps 5.2% to 4308.5, while silver rises 3.8% to 62.32. Copper gains 2.0% to 6.753, and platinum adds 0.2% to 1750.2.
Energy softens. WTI crude falls 0.9% to 75.12 after a 11.1% weekly drop, while natural gas slips 0.5% to 2.669. Gasoline falls 0.7%.
Grains are firmer, with corn up 4.2%, soybeans up 1.9% and wheat up 0.9%. Sugar adds 0.9%, while cocoa falls 1.3%.
The commodity board is split between a strong metals bid and a weaker energy tape, with gold and silver doing most of the heavy lifting.
