Most overseas benchmarks rise as the dollar eases

Asia and Europe mostly finish higher, while the dollar slips against several major currencies.

Global equities lean positive. The Nikkei rises 0.3%, the Hang Seng falls 0.6%, the Shanghai Comp. adds 0.3% and the Kospi jumps 1.6%. In Europe, the FTSE 100 inches up 0.1%, the DAX gains 0.8%, the CAC 40 adds 0.6% and the Stoxx 600 rises 0.7%.

The mixed regional tape comes alongside a weaker dollar. The dollar index falls 0.2% to 99.69, while EUR/USD rises 0.4% to 1.1558, GBP/USD gains 0.3% to 1.3467 and AUD/USD climbs 0.9% to 0.7061.

Asian currencies also show strength against the greenback in several spots, including USD/JPY up 0.1% to 157.694 and USD/CNY down 0.2% to 6.7402. USD/MXN falls 0.5% and USD/ZAR drops 1.3%.

The broader overseas tone is helped by a firmer start in risk assets, with the ASX 200 up 1.4% and the TSX up 1.0%. The Bovespa, by contrast, slips 0.1%.
