Oil pops on Hormuz fears, metals stay hot

Crude jumps, gold extends its run, and grains get a lift in a busy commodity session.

WTI crude climbs 3.8% to 78.07 after CNBC reports supply disruption fears tied to Iran's draft plan for the Strait of Hormuz. Brent is listed at 83.46.

Gold rises 1.1% to 4,292.0, while silver slips 0.9% to 61.56. Copper still edges up 0.1% to 6.711, and CNBC Markets notes the metal has hit its highest level ever.

Energy-related prices are volatile. Nat gas falls 2.5% to 2.62, and gasoline drops 4.8% to 2.7026. Reuters says oil rises as traders weigh the Hormuz proposal.

Grains are active too. Corn jumps 5.8% to 462.0, soybeans add 2.2% to 1,176.25, while wheat falls 2.0% to 629.25. Sugar climbs 2.8% to 15.58, and cocoa drops 2.7% to 5,723.0.
