Asia splits, Europe edges higher as U.S. risk stays mixed
Global stocks trade without a clear trend, with gains in parts of Europe offset by weakness in Japan and South Korea.
Asia closes mixed. The Nikkei 225 falls 1.8%, the Kospi drops 4.5%, and the Shanghai Composite rises 1.5%. The Hang Seng adds 0.2%, while the Sensex edges up 0.2%.
Europe is slightly firmer. The FTSE 100 rises 0.1% to 10,888.2998, the CAC 40 adds 0.0% to 8,669.2998, and the Stoxx 600 gains 0.0% to 657.14. The DAX slips 0.3% to 26,126.3008.
Several regional gauges stay above their longer-term trendlines, including the FTSE 100, CAC 40, Stoxx 600, DAX, and TSX. The ASX 200 closes almost flat, while the TSX also ends little changed. Global sentiment looks choppy rather than risk-off.
News flow is heavy on geopolitics and policy. CNBC Markets highlights Iran's Hormuz Strait plan, U.S. rejection of any impediments, and a separate story on a weaponized yen after U.S.-Japan intervention. Reuters also flags investors watching Mideast talks and earnings.
