Dollar firmer, yen weaker, commodity currencies mixed
The greenback gains against most majors, while oil-linked moves ripple through FX.
The dollar index rises 0.2% to 99.808. EUR/USD edges up 0.2% to 1.1547, GBP/USD gains 0.4% to 1.3508, and AUD/USD adds 0.3% to 0.7057. USD/JPY climbs 0.5% to 159.272.
Commodity and emerging-market FX are mixed. USD/CAD falls 0.5% to 1.3939, USDBRL rises 0.6% to 5.1133, USD/MXN falls 0.4% to 17.1338, and USD/ZAR drops 1.0% to 16.1812. USD/KRW rises 0.8% to 1417.71.
FXStreet says the U.S. dollar firms as oil surges on Hormuz, which matches the broader market story. With oil moving sharply higher and Treasury yields also rising, FX stays tied to the same two drivers that dominate the rest of the tape: energy risk and rates.
Several pairs are still stretched relative to trend. USD/CNY remains below its 200-day average, while USD/INR and USD/MXN also sit below their 200-day marks in the data. The bigger message is that the dollar is not making a clean break in one direction, it is simply firmer against a basket that remains sensitive to risk and oil headlines.
