Index funds hang in, bond funds lag
Stock-heavy funds close higher, while bond funds and gold-tracking GLD diverge with the day’s broader rate move.
The core stock funds finish firmer. VFIAX rises 0.6%, VTSAX adds 0.7%, FXAIX gains 0.6%, and VWELX rises 0.3%.
Bond exposure is weaker. VBTLX adds 0.2%, but TLT falls 0.9%, matching the higher-yield tone in Treasuries. LQD also declines 0.6%, keeping fixed income under pressure on the session.
GLD rises 1.0%, reflecting the day’s bid in precious metals. That lines up with gold’s 2.5% gain in the commodity data. The mixed fund tape mirrors the broader market, equities mostly steady, bonds softer, and commodity-linked assets stronger.
Across the major stock funds, the message is simple: broad equity exposure is still holding up better than longer-duration bond exposure. The funds section does not show panic, but it does show the market leaning toward risk assets and commodities rather than duration.
