Europe and Asia split as U.S. oil jitters spread

Global stocks are mixed, with Europe mostly green, Asia uneven, and oil still setting the tone.

Europe closes mostly higher. The DAX rises 0.7%, the CAC 40 adds 0.2%, and the Stoxx 600 gains 0.3%. The FTSE 100 slips 0.4%, but it still sits well above its 200-day average. France and Germany both hold near the top of their recent ranges, with the CAC and DAX at 52-week highs in the data set.

Asia turns in a mixed session. Shanghai gains 1.0%, Hang Seng adds 0.5%, and the Nikkei 225 slips 0.1%. The Kospi falls 0.6%, while India’s Sensex is down 0.6%. In Australia, the ASX 200 is nearly flat at minus 0.1%.

The global tone is still being shaped by energy and geopolitics. CNBC Markets says U.S. oil rises back above $82 as doubt grows over a Washington-Tehran deal on Hormuz, and Reuters also flags fading expectations of a Hormuz deal. That backdrop helps explain why energy-linked names and markets tied to the oil story stay active.

In the Americas, the Bovespa slips 0.2% while the TSX edges up 0.2%. The cross-current is typical of a day when the market is not running on one broad macro theme, but on a cluster of moving parts: oil, rates, and pockets of AI and cybersecurity news.
