Oil jumps, gold stays hot, gasoline whips lower

Energy prices climb on Middle East headlines, while gasoline, nat gas, and coffee slide.

WTI crude rises 1.6% to 83.42 and Brent climbs 1.8% to 89.26. The move lines up with headlines on rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and oil trading above $83 a barrel.

Gold gains 1.6% to 4,430.7998, and silver slips 0.3% to 64.925. Gold is still up sharply over the past week and month, keeping the metal near the top of the commodities board.

Gasoline is the biggest mover in the group, dropping 7.8% to 2.8915. Nat gas falls 1.7% to 2.748, while copper rises 0.5% to 6.628 and platinum adds 0.7% to 1,756.8.

In agriculture, corn jumps 5.1% to 460.5, soybeans rise 0.9% to 1,167.75, wheat slips 1.6% to 630.5, sugar gains 1.6% to 16.74, and cocoa falls 3.2% to 5,637.0.
