Index funds slip, bond funds lag, and mixed positioning shows through

Broad market fund proxies mostly mirror the day’s cautious tone.

The main equity funds finish lower. VFIAX falls 0.1%, VTSAX slips 0.1%, FXAIX drops 0.1%, and VTI declines 0.3%. SPY loses 0.3%, QQQ falls 0.3%, and DIA slips 0.3% as well.

Small caps hold up better than large caps. IWM rises 0.3%, and the Russell 2000 finishes in the green. EFA also adds 0.1%, matching the firmer tone in overseas equities.

On the fixed-income side, VBTLX falls 0.4% and TLT gains 0.2%. VWELX drops 0.3%.

The fund complex shows the same pattern as the cash market, a mild equity pullback, a little more life in smaller names, and a cautious stance in bonds.
