Dollar firms a bit as FX trades stay choppy
The dollar index edges higher, while major pairs and commodity currencies move in opposite directions.
The dollar index rises 0.2% to 99.989. EUR/USD slips 0.2% to 1.1527, GBP/USD falls 0.1% to 1.3494, and USD/JPY rises 0.2% to 159.422. USD/CHF gains 0.5% to 0.8135.
Commodity and EM FX are more mixed. AUD/USD rises 0.1% to 0.7064, while USD/CAD gains 0.1% to 1.3942. USD/MXN falls 0.4% to 17.0601, USD/ZAR drops 0.3% to 16.1427, and USD/BRL jumps 1.7% to 5.1904.
Several moves line up with the day’s broader risk tone and the FX headlines in the feed. FXStreet highlights a stronger dollar ahead of a packed session, plus notes on the euro reversing from a two-day high and the peso rallying to a two-year high after softer inflation data.
China’s currency remains under pressure relative to the broader FX board. USD/CNY falls 0.2% to 6.736, but the pair still sits below its 200-day average and near a very weak RSI reading of 14.7.
