Dollar firm, but FX stays mostly rangebound
The dollar index edges higher while major pairs move in modest, opposite directions.
The dollar index rises 0.2% to 99.112. Even with that gain, it remains below its 50-day average and just under its 200-day average.
EUR/USD slips 0.1% to 1.166, while USD/JPY is little changed at 159.145. GBP/USD falls 0.4% to 1.3592, and AUD/USD adds 0.2% to 0.7181.
Elsewhere, USD/CHF rises 0.4% to 0.8052 and USD/CAD gains 0.3% to 1.3874. USD/CNY dips 0.1% to 6.7122, while USD/INR falls 2.3% to 93.5461 and USD/KRW drops 0.2% to 1379.05.
The FX tape is active, but not disorderly. Several pairs trade close to recent ranges, and the dollar’s small daily gain does not translate into a broad one-way move across currencies.
