Corn, wheat, and cocoa surge while gasoline sinks

Grains keep ripping, precious metals cool off, and fuel prices break sharply lower.

Commodities finish with some of the day’s biggest moves. Corn jumps 5.1% to 536.25, wheat surges 5.5% to 783.5, and soybeans rise 2.5% to 1,287.75. CNBC reports corn and wheat prices are at their highest in more than three years.

Cocoa also keeps moving hard, up 7.8% to 6,636.0. Sugar falls 3.5% to 17.56, coffee drops 8.6% to 312.6, and platinum slips 0.6% to 1,833.5.

Energy is mixed. WTI crude is nearly flat at 83.44, Brent falls 1.6% to 88.29, and natural gas slips 0.9% to 2.881. Gasoline is the outlier, plunging 9.9% to 3.048.

Gold and silver both drop hard, with gold down 2.3% to 4,504.1 and silver off 3.4% to 67.09. Copper rises 0.8% to 6.64, extending a strong multi-month move.
