Dollar firms while yen and euro both weaken
The dollar index rises, with USD/JPY and USD/CHF higher and EUR/USD lower.
The dollar index gains 0.5% to 99.677, adding to a week that already shows a 0.9% rise. That broad move lines up with firmer Treasury yields and a mixed risk backdrop.
Against the euro, the dollar strengthens as EUR/USD falls 0.6% to 1.1587. The pound also weakens, with GBP/USD down 0.4% to 1.3537.
The yen pair moves higher too, with USD/JPY up 0.5% to 160.038. USD/CHF rises 0.5% to 0.8093, while USD/CAD gains 0.2% to 1.3902 and USD/BRL adds 0.7% to 5.185.
Some emerging-market and Asia pairs move the other way. USD/CNY is nearly flat, USD/KRW falls 0.6%, and USD/MXN rises 0.5%. Headlines about Japan intervention and U.S. sanctions keep currency markets in the news, but the day’s price action itself is a straightforward dollar bid.
