Dollar firms as yen weakens and Europe stays mixed

FX trades in a narrow range, with the dollar index higher and the yen lower versus the greenback.

The dollar index rises 0.2% to 99.356. EUR/USD climbs 0.3% to 1.1625, while GBP/USD edges up 0.1% to 1.3556 and AUD/USD gains 0.2% to 0.7178.

USD/JPY slips 0.3% to 159.72, so the yen strengthens modestly against the dollar. USD/CHF is nearly flat at 0.8081, and USD/CAD falls 0.4% to 1.3849.

Among the more volatile pairs, USD/KRW drops 0.6% to 1368.28 and USD/ZAR falls 0.6% to 16.0805. USD/BRL moves the other way, rising 0.6% to 5.1912.

The dollar stays above its 200-day average, while several commodity-linked currencies hold firmer on the day. The move is measured, not disorderly, with no single pair dominating the tape.
