Dollar firms as the euro and pound slip

The dollar gets a modest bid while commodity currencies and the euro lose ground.

The dollar index rises 0.2% to 99.654. Against that backdrop, EUR/USD falls 0.2% to 1.1597 and GBP/USD slips 0.3% to 1.3515.

USD/JPY rises 0.3% to 160.206, while USD/CHF gains 0.4% to 0.8116 and USD/CAD adds 0.3% to 1.3895. AUD/USD falls 0.3% to 0.7149.

Some emerging-market crosses are mixed. USD/MXN slips 0.1% to 16.986, USD/INR drops 0.3% to 95.1144, and USD/ZAR rises 0.4% to 16.1599.

The FX tape matches the broader risk tone: the dollar is firmer, and currencies tied to growth and commodities look softer. FXStreet also points to U.S.-Iran conflict pressures lifting the dollar and weighing on the Australian dollar.
