Most overseas markets slip as Brazil rallies

Europe and much of Asia drift lower, while Brazil posts a strong gain.

Global equities lean lower outside the U.S. The Nikkei falls 0.2%, Hang Seng drops 0.9%, Shanghai slips 0.2%, Sensex is flat at -0.0%, ASX 200 loses 0.1%, FTSE 100 is down 0.0%, DAX falls 1.1%, CAC 40 declines 0.4%, and the Stoxx 600 slips 0.6%.

A few pockets hold up better. Kospi edges up 0.2%, TSX gains 0.7%, and Brazil’s Bovespa jumps 3.1% to 185,205.1. The Bovespa is also the strongest major market in the set on a one-day basis.

The macro tone remains heavy in the background. CNBC highlights a global bond rout and rising inflation fears, plus euro zone inflation back above 3%. Reuters also points to renewed U.S.-Iran tensions, which helped keep energy headlines front and center.

In currencies, the dollar index slips 0.1% to 99.577, while USD/JPY falls 0.9% to 158.824 and USD/CAD drops 0.4% to 1.3842. AUD/USD rises 0.3% to 0.7167, and USD/CHF edges up 0.2% to 0.813.
