Insurance sees profit, cyber, and AI all in the frame
The sector’s headlines mix underwriting strength with emerging tech risk.
Insurance Journal says the first-half U.S. P/C industry underwriting gain jumps to $31.7B, a sign that core insurance economics still have some support even as the broader market digests higher rates and inflation pressure.
At the same time, AI risk keeps building into the story. Insurance Journal flags employee confidence tanks on AI concerns, while another item says global insured catastrophe losses are expected to average $171 billion annually.
People moves are active too. AIG executive chair and former CEO Zaffino is set to exit for Palantir, and Marsh continues to shuffle leadership across marine, cargo, logistics, and cyber.
The public-equity read is modestly constructive: health care rises 0.8% and financials gain 0.8%, while the market overall keeps volatility lower on the day.
