Most Global Stocks Rose, Even as U.S. Yields Climbed
Europe and Asia mostly finished higher while U.S. rates and risk aversion weighed on Wall Street.
Global equity markets were mostly in the green. The Nikkei 225 rose 1.2%, the Hang Seng gained 1.2%, Shanghai added 1.0%, and the Kospi climbed 1.7%.
Europe also finished higher across the board shown here. The FTSE 100 rose 0.8%, the DAX gained 1.1%, and the Stoxx 600 added 1.0%. The CAC 40 rose 0.9%.
Australia was the outlier. The ASX 200 fell 0.9% and sits below its 50-day and 200-day averages. The Sensex rose 0.8% but remains below both its 50-day and 200-day averages.
The day’s biggest cross-market story was still U.S. rates. The dollar index rose 0.7% to 101.16, while EUR/USD fell 0.6% to 1.1382 and GBP/USD dropped 0.8% to 1.3233. USD/JPY climbed 0.5% to 158.21.
