Real Estate Stays Green as Rates Jump

The sector rose even after housing headlines warned mortgage rates are at yearly highs.

Real estate was one of the better U.S. sectors, rising 1.0% even as Treasury yields spiked. The move came alongside HousingWire headlines saying hot economic data pushed mortgage rates to yearly highs.

That backdrop did not stop all rate-sensitive assets from drifting higher. XLRE added 1.0%, and the sector finished ahead of utilities, which slipped 0.3%.

Across the broader housing and property space, today’s data point was simple: rate pressure is back. The 10-year Treasury yield rose to 5.114, and the 30-year yield reached 5.401.

The sector’s gain stands out against the Dow’s 1.0% decline and the financials sector’s 2.0% drop, underscoring how uneven the rate trade was.
