Oil drops hard as metals and softs mostly firm

Energy prices break lower, while gold, silver, copper, and several agricultural contracts mostly hold up.

Crude takes the biggest hit. WTI falls 2.3% to 92.44, Brent plunges 8.6% to 97.47, and gasoline sinks 10.3% to 3.1968. Nat gas also slips 1.4% to 3.251.

Metals are firmer. Gold rises 0.5% to 4320.5, silver gains 2.0% to 64.71, copper adds 0.9% to 6.779, and platinum jumps 3.0% to 1800.8.

Farm contracts are mixed to higher. Corn rises 0.2%, soybeans gain 0.2%, sugar jumps 5.5%, cocoa adds 0.2%, and wheat slips 0.4%. Coffee edges up 1.0%.

Oil-related headlines point to a softer tone in crude markets, with Reuters and OilPrice both highlighting a slide in prices and a move lower in WTI relative to Brent.
