Europe slips, Asia splits, and the dollar edges lower
Global markets end mixed, with Europe mostly down, Asia uneven, and the dollar softer on the day.
European equities finish lower across the board. The Stoxx 600 falls 0.6%, the DAX loses 0.6%, the CAC 40 drops 0.5%, and the FTSE 100 slips 0.2%. The TSX adds 0.3%, but the broader tone in Europe is weak.
Asia is mixed. The Nikkei 225 rises 0.8%, the Kospi gains 0.9%, and the Bovespa edges down 0.3%. The Hang Seng dips 0.3%, the Shanghai Comp. falls 1.2%, the Sensex loses 1.7%, and the ASX 200 declines 0.7%.
FX is quiet but directional. The dollar index falls 0.3% to 101.035. EUR/USD rises 0.1% to 1.1392, USD/JPY falls 0.7% to 157.185, and USD/CHF rises 0.4% to 0.8283.
The day also keeps trade and geopolitics in view. CNBC reports that Trump and Xi wrap a state visit with few concrete deliverables, while Reuters headlines flag discussion of Middle East risks and Iran’s nuclear posture.
