Dollar firms as the euro and Aussie lose ground
Currency markets track the same yield pressure hitting stocks and bonds.
The dollar index rises 0.1% to 101.478 and stays above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages. That keeps the greenback near the top of its recent range.
EUR/USD falls 0.3% to 1.1334, while AUD/USD drops 1.0% to 0.6947. GBP/USD rises 0.1% to 1.3267, but the pair remains below its 50-day and 200-day moving averages.
Several dollar pairs move higher against commodity and emerging market currencies. USD/CHF rises 0.5% to 0.8356, USD/CAD gains 0.3% to 1.4227, and USD/MXN advances 0.5% to 18.0684.
FX headlines point to the same backdrop, with comments about U.S. yields, a weaker euro, and pressure on the Mexican peso. USD/CNY slips 0.2% to 6.6987, while USD/JPY is nearly flat at 157.401.
