Japan leads a mixed global session
Asian stocks outperform while Europe stays under pressure and Latin American equities outshine the U.S.
Japan stands out in the global tape. The Nikkei 225 jumps 3.3% to 68,956.7, while the Kospi gains 2.0% to 6,971.4. The Bovespa also rises 2.6% to 192,114.5, giving Latin American equities one of the stronger showings of the day.
China is firmer but still below recent trend. The Hang Seng adds 0.4% and the Shanghai Comp. rises 0.3%, but both remain below their 50-day and 200-day averages. India’s Sensex falls 0.8% and Australia’s ASX 200 drops 2.0%, keeping the Asia-Pacific picture mixed.
Europe closes weaker overall. The FTSE 100 inches up 0.3%, but the DAX slips 1.0%, the CAC 40 falls 1.6%, and the Stoxx 600 loses 1.3%. Canada’s TSX rises 1.0%, which helps narrow the day’s regional split.
The Reuters and CNBC headlines point to the same broad backdrop: labor softness in the U.S., a DOJ decision not to reopen the Powell probe, and G7 plans to release diesel stocks as fuel markets stay tight. The market level impact is clearer than any single catalyst, with equities outside the U.S. trading to their own regional setups.
