Brazil rips higher while Asia fades and Europe firms
Global markets split, with Brazil surging, Europe higher, and several Asian benchmarks lower.
The regional picture is mixed. In Asia, the Nikkei falls 0.9%, the Hang Seng drops 2.6%, the Shanghai Composite rises 0.3%, the Kospi gains 0.5%, and the Sensex loses 0.8%.
Europe closes firmer. The DAX adds 1.2%, the CAC 40 rises 0.8%, the Stoxx 600 gains 0.8%, and the FTSE 100 adds 0.3%.
Brazil is the standout. The Bovespa jumps 7.7% to 206911.8906, the biggest gain in the global list, and also posts a 13.1% one-week move and an 11.7% one-month move.
The broad tone across global equities is uneven, with several major indexes still below their 50-day averages, including the Hang Seng, Shanghai, Sensex, ASX 200, and CAC 40. By contrast, the Nikkei, DAX, Stoxx 600, FTSE 100, and Bovespa remain above their 200-day averages.
