Dollar slips, but yen and euro moves stay choppy
The greenback eases slightly against a basket of major currencies, with big swings still concentrated in emerging-market pairs.
The dollar index slips 0.1% to 102.117, but the move is small. Against major developed-market currencies, USD/JPY falls 0.3% to 157.842, EUR/USD drops 0.3% to 1.1217, and GBP/USD declines 0.3% to 1.3232.
Commodity and emerging-market pairs are more active. USD/CAD rises 0.1% to 1.4223, USD/MXN jumps 1.2% to 18.177, and USD/INR gains 0.4% to 96.78. USD/ZAR adds 0.3% to 16.5797.
The yen gets some relief, matching CNBC’s note that it benefits when Trump rules out Iran strikes before midterms. But the broader FX picture still looks driven by rate differentials, with the dollar index sitting 3.4% above its month-ago level.
Some currencies stay under pressure. AUD/USD falls 0.3% to 0.6962, GBP/USD slips 0.3% to 1.3232, and EUR/USD remains near its low end, with the pair down 3.5% over the past month.
