France confirms June inflation slowdown, easing pressure on ECB pause
French headline annual inflation fell to 1.8% in June, down from 2.4% in May, with energy prices cooling and monthly inflation dropping 0.3%.
French inflation data for June has been confirmed, showing annual headline inflation at 1.8%, down from 2.4% in May, according to Forexlive.
Energy price pressures were a key driver of the decline, with energy inflation rising more moderately at 11.1% in June versus 16.6% in May, and energy showing a monthly drop of 4.2% after a 0.6% increase in May.
Core inflation also weakened, falling to 1.0% in June from 1.5% previously, as air transport prices cooled and cyclical declines appeared in categories including clothing, insurance, and bundled telecommunications services.
Forexlive noted that the softer readings across headline, energy, and core inflation reinforce the ECB’s approach of staying on pause into the summer break, with food inflation slowing to 0.9% and services inflation easing to 1.9%.
