IRGC says attacks in the Strait of Hormuz will delay reopening
The IRGC warned the waterway would stay shut longer, a risk to global oil flows as WTI was up 1.5% on the day to $79.02.
The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said two tankers it called “offending supertankers” were hit and disabled in the Strait of Hormuz, adding that the vessels ignored warnings, turned off navigation systems, and attempted to pass through what it described as a mined route, according to FXStreet.
The IRGC also said cooperation with an “aggressor enemy” in the strategic waterway would delay reopening, and it warned this could trigger a global energy crisis.
FXStreet cited a report from Iran’s Nournews that areas of southern Iran’s Bushehr were hit in a renewed US attack.
At the time of writing, FXStreet noted West Texas Intermediate was up 1.5% on the day at $79.02, reflecting market sensitivity to disruptions in the region’s shipping lanes.
