Dana Gas suspends Khor Mor gas field operations over security threats
The shutdown is expected to cut Kurdistan Region electricity generation capacity by up to 3,000 megawatts, leaving power available only a few hours per day.
OilPrice reports that Dana Gas, based in the United Arab Emirates, has suspended operations at its main production facilities in the Khor Mor gas field due to credible security threats.
The company said the closure was coordinated with the Kurdistan Regional Government, Sulaymaniyah authorities, and the Iraqi federal government, citing efforts to protect personnel and infrastructure.
OilPrice adds that the Khor Mor facility has previously been disrupted by rocket and drone strikes from armed groups, with past production halts and widespread blackouts.
The operator expects the cessation of gas deliveries to power stations to reduce the region’s electricity generation capacity by up to 3,000 megawatts, while also stating the plant remains in operational readiness to restart quickly if conditions improve. The field is described as holding an estimated 8.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves.
