ONS delays Labour Force Survey transition to improve data quality
The UK data regulator postponed the move to a Transformed Labour Force Survey, pushing the planned timeline from November 2026 to some point next year.
Forexlive reports the UK’s Office for National Statistics said it will continue laying groundwork for improvements to Labour Force Survey data by transitioning to a Transformed Labour Force Survey, or TLFS.
The update follows concerns dating back to 2023 about a falling response rate to the Labour Force Survey, which the ONS says has hurt the quality of labour market information.
Forexlive adds that the ONS had previously targeted a transition timeline of November 2026, but has since pushed it to “some time next year,” acknowledging the process may still face delays.
The outlet says ONS director-general for Surveys and Economic and Social Statistics James Benford noted it is unclear when, or even if, remaining issues can be fully addressed in 2027.
