Mark Cuban urges companies to tie broader equity sharing to pay
Cuban said the tax code could be used to encourage firms to grant employees stock warrants, options, or other equity in the same proportional basis as executives.
Billionaire Mark Cuban said corporate America should focus less on raising wages alone and more on giving employees equity so they can build long term wealth, speaking on the What It Takes podcast.
Cuban argued that ownership is the lever for narrowing the wealth gap, suggesting companies create financial incentives to share stock more broadly rather than relying on voluntary programs alone.
He proposed using the tax code to condition lower corporate tax treatment on wider equity distribution, such that executives and rank and file workers receive equity based on the same proportion of their cash compensation.
Cuban said the approach is not about equal dollar amounts for every employee, but about giving workers the same opportunity to benefit if a company grows, is acquired, or eventually goes public, according to Yahoo Finance.
