$2,000 SpaceX IPO bet swings from near 67% gain back to breakeven

SpaceX raised $75 billion at $135 a share, and a $2,000 investment would have peaked near $3,340 before returning to about $2,002 a month later.

SmartAsset discusses what a hypothetical $2,000 investment in the SpaceX IPO would have meant for retail investors, using the $135 offering price. The IPO, described as the biggest on record, raised $75 billion at $135 per share.

According to SmartAsset, the example assumes fractional shares were available, allowing the investor to buy about 14.8 shares with $2,000. In the days after the listing, the stock surged as high as $225.64, which would have increased the investment to roughly $3,340, a paper gain of nearly 67%.

The gains faded quickly, with SpaceX shares falling back to around $135.27 by mid-July, about a month after the IPO. SmartAsset says that at this level, the same $2,000 position would be worth approximately $2,002, essentially unchanged from the original investment despite large swings early on.
