Southwest forecast misses as fuel costs continue to rise

The airline said second-quarter profit rose more than 9%, helped by higher fares that offset a growing fuel bill.

Southwest Airlines reported that second-quarter profit increased by more than 9%, as higher fares helped the company keep pace with rising fuel costs, CNBC Markets reports.

The airline’s outlook for the third quarter, however, fell short, according to CNBC World.

CNBC Earnings reported that Southwest’s fuel bill climb was a key factor behind the weaker-than-expected forecast, even as pricing supported profit in the most recent quarter.
