USTR Greer says US is pushing ahead on USMCA talks

Greer said the U.S. aims to cut the bilateral trade deficit while increasing North American manufacturing, including through continued USMCA progress.

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told the Senate Finance Committee that the administration is moving with urgency on USMCA negotiations, while also emphasizing stronger incentives for North American manufacturing.

According to Forexlive, Greer defended the Trump administration’s broader trade agenda, arguing that the latest tariffs are meant to help rebuild U.S. manufacturing and address persistent trade imbalances, while pressing trading partners to reach more favorable agreements.

On Canada, Greer said the working relationship with Canadian officials remains intact and that negotiations have not ended despite the announcement of new tariffs, adding that Canada has not yet made meaningful trade concessions.

Greer reiterated President Trump’s goal of reducing the bilateral trade deficit and bringing more manufacturing back to the United States, positioning USMCA talks alongside ongoing negotiations with Mexico, Canada, and China.
