30-year mortgage rate rises to 6.58%, highest since Aug 2025

Freddie Mac said the 6.58% 30-year rate would increase the monthly payment on a $500,000 loan by about $195.

Mortgage rates moved higher again, with the 30-year fixed-rate average reaching 6.58% for the week ending July 23, the highest level since August 21, 2025, Forexlive reported. The 30-year rate was 6.55% the prior week, and Forexlive noted that a year ago it stood at 6.74%. The outlet also highlighted that the increase from 5.98% to 6.58% represents a 0.6 percentage point jump, which it said can materially affect affordability by raising the monthly payment on a $500,000 loan by about $195.

Forexlive added that the 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.96%, up from 5.93% in the previous week.
