AST SpaceMobile sells $1B in convertible notes to expand launch capacity
The company also delayed its roughly 45-satellite deployment target from end of 2026 to early 2027, citing current launch availability.
AST SpaceMobile, which is building a space-based cellular broadband network, announced a private offering of $1 billion in convertible senior notes due in 2034, a move the company says will support broader growth initiatives.
In separate filings dated July 15, AST SpaceMobile disclosed it is pushing its roughly 45-satellite deployment target back from the end of 2026 to early 2027, citing current launch availability.
The company said it plans to use part of the proceeds to secure additional launch capacity through potential partnerships or acquisitions that could further vertically integrate its business and reduce reliance on third-party launch providers.
A consultant cited by MarketBeat Ratings, Tim Farrar of TMF Associates, said the wording in AST SpaceMobile’s press release and Form 8-K points to an intended shift toward buying or investing in a launch services provider, though he questioned whether the $1 billion offering alone would be enough to fund such a deal.
